Aesthetics & Beauty Questions Answered

Thinking About an Aesthetic Treatment? Start Here

Considering an aesthetic or advanced beauty treatment can leave you with a surprising number of questions.

What treatment do you need? Will it hurt? Will people notice? How much downtime is involved? And, perhaps most importantly, how do you know whether a particular treatment is actually right for you?

At Radiance Personified, we believe you should feel comfortable and properly informed before deciding to have any aesthetic treatment. You certainly don’t need to arrive knowing the difference between HIFU, skin boosters, lasers and every other acronym the beauty industry has invented.

Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions people ask before visiting our aesthetics and beauty clinic in Crewe.

Preparing for Treatment & Looking After Your Results

Before Your First Visit

I’ve never had an aesthetic treatment before. Where do I start?

Start with what you would like to improve rather than trying to choose a treatment yourself. Tell us what concerns you, what sort of result you would like and anything you definitely do not want, and we can discuss the options that may suit you.

Our advanced aesthetic treatments cover a wide range of skin, ageing and appearance concerns.

Do I need to know which treatment I want before I contact you?

Not at all. In fact, coming to us with a concern rather than a treatment name can often be more useful.

You might know that you want firmer skin, fewer lines or a more even complexion without having the faintest idea whether HIFU, laser, injectables or another treatment is the sensible option. That is what the consultation process is for.

What is the difference between a beauty treatment and an aesthetic treatment?

Traditional beauty treatments generally concentrate on appearance, grooming, relaxation and maintaining the skin. Advanced aesthetic treatments tend to use more specialised techniques, products or technology to target specific concerns or changes within the skin.

At Radiance Personified we offer both beauty and advanced aesthetics, allowing us to recommend an approach based on what you actually want to achieve.

What kinds of concerns can aesthetic treatments help with?

People visit us for many different reasons, including fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, pigmentation, uneven texture, acne scarring, dull skin, unwanted hair and general signs of ageing.

Different concerns require different approaches, which is why we prefer assessing your skin and goals before recommending a particular treatment.

Will an aesthetic treatment make me look unnatural?

That certainly isn’t the aim. Our approach is generally about improving, refreshing or enhancing what you already have rather than changing your face into somebody else’s.

The best result is often one where people think you look particularly well without immediately being able to work out why.

Are aesthetic treatments only about looking younger?

No. Although ageing concerns such as lines, wrinkles and loss of firmness are common, aesthetics covers much more than anti-ageing.

Treatments can also target scarring, pigmentation, skin texture, unwanted hair, dullness, redness and other concerns that can affect how somebody feels about their skin.

Am I too young or too old for aesthetic treatments?

There isn’t one ideal age at which everybody suddenly needs aesthetic treatment. Suitability depends far more on your skin, concerns, medical history and what you want to achieve.

Some people are interested in maintaining healthy-looking skin while others first consider treatment when visible changes begin bothering them later in life.

Do men visit aesthetics clinics too?

Absolutely. Increasing numbers of men consider professional treatments for concerns such as skin ageing, hair removal, pigmentation, scarring, wrinkles and skin quality.

Treatments should be planned around the individual rather than assuming everybody wants the same result.

What if I’m nervous about having a treatment?

Being nervous is completely normal, especially if it is your first experience of aesthetics. We will explain what is involved, what you are likely to feel and what you can expect afterwards before proceeding.

You can also read about our team and approach before visiting us.

Can I speak to somebody before deciding whether to book a treatment?

Yes. You are welcome to contact us if you are unsure where to begin or simply want to find out whether we offer something suitable.

Our contact page has our telephone number, email address and enquiry form.

Your First Consultation

What happens during an aesthetics consultation?

We will usually begin by discussing what you would like to improve and the type of result you are hoping for. Your practitioner can then consider factors such as your skin, facial features, medical history and previous treatments before discussing suitable options.

It is also your opportunity to ask questions and make sure you feel comfortable before making a decision.

Why do you need to know about my medical history?

Some health conditions, medications, allergies and previous procedures can affect whether a treatment is suitable or how it should be performed.

Giving your practitioner accurate information allows them to make a safer and more informed recommendation.

Can I have my treatment at the same appointment as my consultation?

That depends on the treatment. Some procedures require a separate consultation, assessment or other checks before treatment can take place.

For example, anti-wrinkle injections require an appropriate consultation and medical assessment before treatment can be provided.

How do you decide which treatment is right for me?

We look at what you want to improve, your skin or facial characteristics, your lifestyle, expectations and how much recovery time you are comfortable with.

Sometimes several treatments could potentially help, in which case we can explain the differences rather than simply pushing whichever one happens to be fashionable that month.

What happens if you don’t think I need treatment?

We will tell you. A consultation should establish whether treatment is appropriate, not invent something to treat simply because you walked through the door.

Sometimes the sensible recommendation may be to wait, change your skincare routine or consider a different approach.

Can different aesthetic treatments be combined?

Yes, certain treatments can complement each other because they target different aspects of the skin or face. However, more treatment does not automatically mean better results.

Where a combination might be useful, we can recommend a sensible order and timetable rather than attempting everything at once.

Should I choose an aesthetics clinic based mainly on price?

Price matters, but it shouldn’t be the only consideration when choosing somebody to perform an aesthetic treatment. Training, experience, hygiene, consultation standards, the products or technology being used and the quality of aftercare all matter too.

With aesthetics, the cheapest bargain is not necessarily the bargain you hoped it was.

How can I check who will be carrying out my treatment?

You should always feel comfortable asking who will perform your treatment, what training they have and how much experience they have with the procedure you are considering.

You can meet the people behind Radiance Personified on our About Us page.

Can I read reviews from previous clients before booking?

Yes. Reading genuine experiences from other clients can tell you a great deal about how a clinic communicates, treats its clients and supports them before and after treatment.

You can read our client reviews here.

What questions should I ask before agreeing to an aesthetic treatment?

Ask what the treatment can realistically achieve, whether it is suitable for you, what it will feel like, possible side effects, downtime, aftercare and how many sessions might be required.

You should also understand the cost before proceeding and feel able to ask anything else that is worrying you.

Safety, Suitability & Your Skin

Are aesthetic treatments safe?

No aesthetic procedure should be described as completely risk-free. Different treatments have different potential side effects and suitability requirements, which should be discussed before you proceed.

A proper consultation and choosing an appropriately trained practitioner are important parts of reducing unnecessary risk.

Do aesthetic treatments have side effects?

They can. Depending on the treatment, temporary effects can include redness, tenderness, swelling, sensitivity or bruising, while more advanced treatments may involve a longer recovery period.

We will explain the expected effects and any important risks relevant to the specific treatment you are considering.

Are aesthetic treatments suitable for every skin type?

Not every treatment is suitable for every skin type or skin tone. Certain lasers, peels and other advanced procedures may require different settings, preparation or alternative treatment choices.

Your skin should therefore be assessed before starting a course of treatment.

Can I have aesthetic treatments if I have sensitive skin?

Possibly, but sensitive skin needs to be considered carefully when choosing a treatment. Tell us about reactions you have experienced previously and any products or ingredients that cause problems.

We can then determine whether the treatment you are considering is appropriate.

What if I have acne, eczema, rosacea or another skin condition?

Always mention any diagnosed or active skin condition before treatment. Some treatments may need to be postponed during a flare-up while others may simply not be appropriate for that particular condition.

Rather than guessing, allow us to assess your skin first.

Do I need to tell you about medication or supplements I take?

Yes. Certain medicines and supplements can affect bruising, healing, sensitivity or your suitability for particular procedures.

Please give us accurate information and do not stop prescribed medication solely because you are planning an aesthetic treatment unless advised by an appropriate healthcare professional.

Can I have aesthetic treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Many aesthetic procedures are avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding because their safety has not been sufficiently established for these situations.

Always tell us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or think you may be pregnant so we can advise you appropriately.

Does sun exposure or having a tan affect aesthetic treatments?

It can, particularly with certain laser, light-based and resurfacing procedures. Recent sun exposure or tanning can affect skin sensitivity and may change when it is appropriate to carry out a treatment.

Tell us about recent holidays, tanning or significant sun exposure during your consultation.

Will I need a patch test before treatment?

Some treatments and technologies require a patch test or assessment before the full procedure. Whether this is necessary will depend on the treatment and your individual circumstances.

We will explain any preparation or testing requirements when you enquire or attend your consultation.

Will photographs be taken before my treatment?

Before-and-after photographs can be useful for monitoring changes and assessing results over time. If photographs are required as part of your treatment record, this should be explained to you.

Images should not be used for promotional purposes without the appropriate permission.

Results, Comfort & Recovery

Do aesthetic treatments hurt?

The sensation varies enormously between treatments and from person to person. Some procedures produce little more than warmth or tingling while others can be more uncomfortable.

We will explain what you are likely to experience before treatment begins.

Can anything be done to make treatments more comfortable?

Depending on the procedure, techniques such as topical numbing products, cooling or adjustments to treatment settings may be used where appropriate.

Your comfort matters, so let your practitioner know if you are particularly anxious about discomfort.

How much downtime will I need after an aesthetic treatment?

It depends entirely on the procedure. Some treatments involve virtually no interruption to normal life while more intensive treatments can involve several days of visible redness, sensitivity, peeling or recovery.

For example, our guide to CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing explains why planning recovery time is particularly important with deeper skin treatments.

Can I go back to work after an aesthetic treatment?

Often yes, particularly following treatments with minimal downtime. However, you may have temporary redness, swelling or other visible effects and some procedures require more recovery.

If discretion or appearance at work matters, mention this when discussing treatment.

Is redness, swelling or bruising normal afterwards?

Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur with many aesthetic procedures. What is considered normal varies considerably depending on what treatment you have received.

We will explain the likely recovery process and tell you what to watch for before you leave.

Will I see the result immediately?

Sometimes, but not always. Certain treatments produce an obvious change quickly while others work by encouraging processes such as collagen renewal and therefore develop gradually over several weeks or months.

For example, treatments such as HIFU are chosen partly because improvements can continue developing after the appointment.

How many treatments will I need?

Some concerns may respond well to one treatment while others benefit from a course of sessions. Your skin, the treatment being used, the concern being addressed and the result you want can all affect the recommendation.

Where a course is suggested, we will explain why rather than simply handing you an arbitrary number.

How long do aesthetic treatment results last?

There is no single answer because different treatments work in completely different ways. Some produce temporary results requiring maintenance while treatments that stimulate changes within the skin can continue producing improvements gradually.

Your age, skin, lifestyle and individual response can also affect longevity.

Can you guarantee the results of an aesthetic treatment?

No responsible clinic should promise an exact result because people’s bodies and skin respond differently. We can explain what a treatment is designed to achieve and what results are reasonably expected based on your individual circumstances.

Setting realistic expectations is an important part of a proper consultation.

How far before a wedding, holiday or special event should I have treatment?

It is generally wise not to experiment with a completely new treatment immediately before an important occasion. Allowing time for swelling, redness, bruising or skin recovery means you are far less likely to spend the wedding photographs silently regretting your scheduling decisions.

Tell us the date of your event and we can advise on a sensible treatment timetable.

Preparing for Treatment & Looking After Your Results

How should I prepare for my aesthetic treatment?

Preparation depends on the procedure, so follow the instructions given specifically for your treatment. You may be advised to avoid certain skincare products, sun exposure or other activities beforehand.

If you are unsure about anything in the days leading up to your appointment, contact us rather than relying on whatever somebody on TikTok confidently announced at midnight.

Can I wear make-up to my appointment?

That depends on the area and treatment, although make-up may need to be removed before certain facial procedures.

Arriving with clean skin can make things simpler, but we will let you know if there are specific requirements.

Will I need to change my skincare routine before or after treatment?

Possibly. Treatments that exfoliate, resurface or otherwise stimulate the skin may require you to pause certain active skincare ingredients before or after your appointment.

Your practitioner will explain what you should use, avoid and when you can return to your usual routine.

Can I exercise, drink alcohol or use a sauna after treatment?

Restrictions vary depending on the treatment. Heat, strenuous exercise, alcohol and other activities can sometimes worsen swelling, redness or irritation after certain procedures.

Follow the aftercare instructions provided for your individual treatment rather than applying one universal rule to everything.

Will I receive aftercare advice?

Yes. Good treatment does not stop the moment the procedure finishes.

We will explain how to look after the treated area, what reactions are normally expected and whether there is anything you should temporarily avoid.

What should I do if I am worried about something after my treatment?

Contact us. It is always better to ask if something seems unusual rather than sitting at home worrying about it or attempting to diagnose yourself through Google images.

We can establish what has happened and advise you on the appropriate next step.

Will I need maintenance treatments?

Some treatments benefit from occasional maintenance while others may be carried out as a course and then reviewed. How frequently you return should depend on your skin and goals rather than following an automatic timetable forever.

We can discuss maintenance once we see how you respond to the initial treatment.

How much do aesthetic treatments cost?

Prices vary considerably because treatments use different products, equipment, treatment areas and appointment times. Some procedures are priced per area while others may be available individually or as a course.

Our individual treatment pages contain more information, or you can contact Radiance Personified if you are unsure what you need.

How long does an aesthetic appointment take?

Appointment length depends on the procedure and whether consultation, preparation or numbing time is required. Some appointments are relatively quick while more advanced skin treatments naturally take longer.

We will give you an idea of how much time to allow when your treatment is arranged.

Where is Radiance Personified and how do I arrange an appointment?

We can talk through the available options and explain what may be suitable, what results you can realistically expect and what is involved before you decide whether you would like to go ahead.
